The recent 2009 edition of “Chicago Jewish News Guide to Jewish Chicago” lists the Oberweis ice cream shop located on Lincoln Avenue in Lincolnwood, Illinois, as being under the certification of the cRc. While many of the ice cream varieties sold there are certified by the cRc, the store itself is not under cRc supervision. One should follow the guidelines set forth by the cRc when purchasing ice cream from the counter that is not in the original sealed factory container. Ice cream sold from their reach-in freezer may be used if it is in the original sealed factory pack bearing a cRc D (cholov stam) logo on the label. Recent packages of Jewel brand Lemonade were inadvertently printed without the cRc on the label. This product continues to be unter the strict supervision of the cRc as a kosher and parve. Future labels will be corrected to include the cRc logo. Please be aware that there is a clothing brand called A. protegee that has Hashem’s name spelled out in Hebrew Letters on it’s clothing. L’Chatchila, it must be treated with the Halacos of Shaimos which include not being taken into unclean areas. The clothing line can be found at many brand name retail stores.

OTTAWA, May 31, 2009 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume Tehina Real Mediterranean because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected product is sold in 500 g plastic bottles bearing lot code EXP28/12/2010 and UPC 7 290010 304011. Other than the product name ("Tehina Real Mediterranean") and serving instructions, all other label information is in Hebrew and Arabic. This product has been distributed in Quebec. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis. The importer, Épices Gan Eden is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
