The following alert was sent out by the OU: Eastun brand IQF Broccoli and IQF Cauliflower bears an unauthorized OU symbol and fraudulently appears on a letter of kosher certification.

Kashrus agencies have reported that Alei Katif products from California, with the words "California Grown" on the package, should not be used and should be returned, as they have been found to be infested in such a way that even rinsing and washing the product is insufficient. This does NOT affect Alei Katif products grown in Eretz Yisroel, or in Ecuador, which may be used in accordance with the instructions on the bag.

We have been informed that area fruit and vegetable stores are now selling cucumbers from Israel. There is presently no problem with Shmittah on fresh cucumbers. However, if the produce is not under a reliable hashgacha, one is still required to take Terumah and Maaser. Israeli produce is usually identified by a sign or sticker on the fruit and/or vegetable. Consumers should always be careful when buying any produce and follow thru with the proper procedures when purchasing produce from Israel. Please be advised that Royal Candy Company Brooklyn, NY has been distributing tootsie roll midgies, vanilla caramels, and other soft candies with an UNAUTHORIZED OK symbol. Only the hard candies are certified by OK Kosher Certification. Corrective measures are being taken.

August 12, 2009 Swirl Stix Brands: Philly Stix Products: Swirl Stix Company: Philly’s Inc. Issue: Product bears a “DE” OU Pareve designation. The product is actually Pareve. The manufacturer included the “DE” OU designation because of concerns about dairy allergens which may be present in the plant. At this time, the product does not have a “DE” designation.

Certain packages of Jewel brand Dixie Cup Ice Cream contain a cRc logo on the outer bag and a “Shield K” on the lids of the individual cups. The lids with the “Shield K” were used inadvertently. This product is indeed under the strict certification of the cRc and is dairy - cholov stam when bearing the cRc logo on the bag or the individual cups.

There is a sheep cheese from Bulgaria bearing an OUD being sold at City Fresh located at the Southwest corner of Devon and Kedzie in Chicago (across from Great Chicago). At this time, the OU is not able to confirm that this cheese is indeed certified by the OU.
The “D” dairy designation was inadvertently omitted from several packages of Fannie May Chocolates. All Fannie May chocolates bearing the cRc logo are dairy, Cholov Stam. Corrective measures are being taken.
