Barley infestation
Update

"BARLEY ALERT! Packaged barley may be subject to insect and worm presence or infestation through November, as the packages may be stored in warehouses for months, and eggs may even hatch within the package. By the following link, we provide evidence of this fact: https://tinyurl.com/p4zq56t For instance, bags of Unger’s barley lot number 05016 from different cases and checked by different mashgichim were found to be infested." "We have been advised by a renowned Kashrus expert that the proper manner in which to check barley is as follows: Take a full handful of barley from a bag and check it on a white paper plate (not plastic, which creates a shine) with a very good overhead light which illuminates the plate. Slowly separate and swish the kernels looking for black insects and white worms. Checking on a dry surface, is more effective than placing the barley into water and looking for movement." http://www.kashrut.com/Alerts/?alert=A5140

EAT Chia! Chia Bites - Made on DAIRY EQUIPTMENT
Warning

OU KASHRUTH ALERT September 11, 2015 EAT Chia! Chia Bites Brand: EAT Chia Product: Chocolate Chunk Chia Bites Company: Drink Chia LLC Issue: Mislabeled Product Product contains chocolate manufactured on Dairy equipment and erroneously bears an OU symbol, not the proper OU D (dairy) designation. However, the product does not contain dairy ingredients. Some Kashrus agencies use a DE symbol, but the OU has chosen not to use a DE designation because it is felt it may be confusing to the kosher consumer. Also, to be a true DE product, the equipment must be properly cleaned of residue after dairy production, and that level of clean-up is sometimes difficult to maintain and guarantee. DE products may be eaten after meat, but may not be eaten together with or cooked with meat products. Future packaging will be revised.
