September 4, 2018 In previous years, the cRc has recommended certain readily available fencing material (commonly sold in Home Depot) to be used for schach and provided detailed instructions on how to place them on the sukkah. However, based on feedback from consumers on the sturdiness of those materials and how they were being used, we have determined that there is a reasonable chance that some people will end up not having kosher schach (since the fencing material could become invalidated if a few of the reeds break) unless they place multiple layers of fencing on top of their sukkah. Accordingly, we are no longer issuing specific recommendations of fencing material. Instead we suggest that if you choose to use these fencing mats that you add additional schach (e.g. added layers of these mats, bamboo poles, evergreen or other tree branches) to ensure the fulfillment of the halachic requirement of "more shade than sunlight." Also, any fencing mats should be placed perpendicular to the schach support beams in order to avoid ma’amid issues, as we have explained in previous years.

July 31, 2018 from Jerusalem Kosher News: Translated from the original Hebrew alert by Jerusalem Kosher News: Acting on a tip, a raid was carried out on 6 Av by the Tel Aviv District Food Service, with the participation of the Department of Enforcement & Supervision of the Ministry of Health and the detectives of the Tel Aviv district fraud department of the Israel Police. In the raid at the 5-Star liquor warehouse on 10 Bar Kochba Street in Holon, many boxes of bottles suspected of being forged were found due to the absence of production and packaging codes in 200 ml bottles bearing labels “Uncle Smith”, “Moskva”, and “Louis XV". Due to the suspicion, the goods were confiscated by the Ministry of Health and samples were taken to test methanol levels in the laboratory. Laboratory tests found that methanol was found to be 20 times higher than the standard for alcoholic beverages and therefore the products would be destroyed by the distribution warehouse under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. The activity is part of the Ministry of Health’s extensive activity to prevent the marketing of fake alcohol. As seen in the photo, at least the bottles with he Moshva label also bear the logo of the Badatz Eida Chareidis. Officials point out that fake alcohol can cause a multi-systemic injury with significant damage to the kidneys. In some cases, the physical manifestations of the poisoning were continued vomiting, difficulty in breathing, and impaired vision until blindness was caused. In addition to methanol may cause nerve damage, loss of consciousness, seizures, floor and even death. The Ministry of Health, together with the other enforcement agencies, will continue its activity against business owners and marketers who sell fake alcohol and endanger public health.
