October 28, 2010 For many years, the Star-K Hotline has recommended various Tylenol and Motrin products manufactured by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNeil-PPC, Inc.. Although these products have never been formally Kosher certified, Star-K was able to approve them based on our review of information provided to us. The glycerin used in these products was derived from Kosher sources (i.e. Kosher glycerin can be made from vegetable or synthetic sources). These products were produced in their Fort Washington, PA, plant. This plant which was shut down this past spring. McNeil is now distributing Grape Liquid Children’s Tylenol manufactured in Canada. Representatives of McNeil have stated that this product contains glycerin derived from non-Kosher beef or pork. We recommend discussing with your physician whether the following Kosher alternatives will work for those who require acetaminophen: • Triaminic Fever Reducer Pain Reliever Syrup made by Novartis is certified Kosher when bearing the OU symbol. This children’s product contains acetaminophen, the same active ingredient found in Tylenol. • McNeil Consumer Healthcare also produces a liquid version of Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Blast Liquid for Adults - Cherry Flavor which does not contain any glycerin. • Many children are able to use chewable tablets which typically do not contain glycerin (although they may contain other ingredients which are kosher-sensitive). October 27, 2010 Liquid Tylenol and Motrin produced in the USA were known to use kosher glycerin, but have been off the market for a few months. Liquid Tylenol is now being imported from a Canadian plant, which informed the cRc that their product contains non-kosher animal glycerin. Accordingly, the product is not kosher and we recommend you consult with your Rabbi to find out if you may use the product. It is noteworthy that (a) the liquid Tylenol produced for adults does not contain any glycerin and (b) there is a new Triaminic Fever Reducer which contains the same active ingredient as Tylenol and is certified kosher by the OU. Please be advised that the following products made by David Roberts Food Corp were labeled with an unauthorized COR 564. Two for the Road Ju Jubes, 80 g packet Two for the Road Red Berries, 70 g packet These products are not kosher even when bearing the COR 564.
The following alert is being sent on the request of the Blue Ribbon Kosher Certification: Dairy Designation Inadvertently Omitted From Shipping Cases All products from Nikola’s Biscotti & European Specialties Co., Minneapolis, MN 55420 are Blue Ribbon Kosher certified and are Dairy Stam, as listed on the ingredient panels. These products contain dairy ingredients as shown on individual retail packaging and ingredient panels, however, the dairy stam designation has been inadvertently omitted from all shipping cases, both bulk and commercial products (packed without inside labeling) as well as for retail products (with labeling). October 12, 2010 The “D” dairy designation on several packages of Fannie May chocolates was inadvertently omitted. All Fannie May chocolates are indeed dairy, Cholov Stam.
MAPLEGROVE GLUTEN FREE boxed pasta products bearing the COR 272 Dairy label may contain white or yellow cheese packets that are not Kosher. Cheese packets that do not have a CircleK (OK) - Dairy symbol on them should be discarded. Cheese packets that do have the CircleK (OK) - Dairy symbol, may be consumed. Corrective measures are being taken.
Please be advised that I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Light Margarine UPC 68400 30030 was inadvertently labeled with COR 47. This product contains non-kosher gelatin and is not kosher. Please note that "I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Soft Margarine" is kosher dairy when bearing COR 47 Dairy. Corrective measures are being taken.
Please be advised that Nature’s Blend Premium Bagels Whole Grain Whole Wheat being sold at Safeway stores was labeled with an unauthorized COR 153. This product is not under COR certification.
The Nutman 3-877 Alness St. North York, On M3J 2X4 Certification has been suspended and products bearing a Badatz symbol shall be considered not kosher.

Recently it has been discovered that red/purple cabbage may be infested with small white bugs. The insects might not be noticed during a casual check of the cabbage, but if the leaves are removed from the head and checked carefully (before the leaves are washed), the bugs can easily be seen standing or crawling on the inside of the leaves. The insects have been found in cabbage checked in New York, Baltimore, and Chicago, but the exact extent of the infestation or the reason for its sudden appearance is not yet understood. We therefore recommend that until further notice one should only used red/purple cabbage in one of the following two ways: • It is purchased pre-washed and pre-shredded (i.e. bagged cabbage). • The leaves are removed from the head and each leaf is rinsed thoroughly under a stream of water. To the best of our knowledge, green cabbage is not affected by this infestation. We will continue to monitor the issue and inform the public if the infestation ends and/or if there are alternative washing methods which are sufficient

When shopping at stores not under complete kosher certification (including the grocery sections), consumers must be very careful that the foods they purchase are certified kosher by a reliable kosher agency. Just being found in the “kosher aisle” or on a “kosher display” do not necessarily guarantee that the foods are indeed bear reliable kosher certification. Since most “Kosher” supermarkets employ a staff of Mashgichim, we encourage consulting them when unsure of a product’s Kashrus status.
The following products bear "COR 408 Dairy" symbols where the word "Dairy" is not easily discernible. Baba Ghanouj Grilled Artichoke Dip Roasted Butternut Squash Dip Roasted Red Pepper Dip Tzatziki These product labels are being changed to more clearly identify the "COR Dairy" designation.

There are many ice cream and frozen yogurt stores selling products that were manufactured under hashgacha. However, in most cases, the individual retail stores are not certified by any reliable kosher agency or rabbi. Whenever one intends to make a purchase at one of these locations it is very important that a thorough inspection is made to ascertain the actual kosher status of each purchase. This must be done each time a purchase is made. It is advisable to patronize stores under a reliable kosher certification whenever possible.
Sweetwater Spice Company has several products that bear an unauthorized cRc. None of their products are certified by the cRc.

Many consumers are under the impression that various Yogenfruz stores are kosher certified by the Kashruth Council of Canada. Some establishments may even display an unauthorized COR logo on their menu board. Yogenfruz is a national retailer of frozen yogurt products with outlets across Canada and the U.S., including a number of locations in the Toronto area. The Kashruth Council of Canada does not presently certify any Yogenfruz stores. Please note that the COR symbol which appears on any product being sold at these stores is only valid for products in their original factory-sealed packages. Once the packaging is opened, the kosher certification of that product is no longer valid. The Kashruth Council of Canada reminds the consumer that this same principle applies to all non-certified stores selling ice cream, smoothies, and other similar products. As always, we suggest that consumers patronize establishments that are fully certified by a reliable kosher agency.

Company: Aldi Inc., Batavia IL Issue: These products mistakenly bear an unauthorized OU symbol and are not kosher. They are being withdrawn from the marketplace. Please be advised that some JELL-O Strawberry Cheesecake Snacks Recently produced by Kraft Foods were incorrectly labeled with an OK-D. The OK does not certify this product due to the fact that it contains gelatin. If you have purchased this product and would like a refund from Kraft Foods please call the 800 number on the package.
