Q. See question above. Can one just paint the required amount for the Zecher Lechurban with black or dark paint instead of removing the existing paint?
Answer
A. Nitei Gavriel, Hilchos Bein Hmetzorim 99: 9, mentioned above, requires as a real reminder of the destruction of the Bet Hamikdah, the actual real removal of the paint.
