6161 – More Animal Shailos!
Q. Dear Rov Shlit’a. I read an article that in Verona, two chicks were born which were attached at the side. It appears that they came from two different egg yolks. They had two heads, two necks, four feet, and both heads were able to eat. What is the Halachic status of eating this chicken?
A. The Halachic status of this conjoined, two-headed chicken is a subject of debate among halachic authorities, with opinions mixed between ruling it permissible under specific conditions or declaring it unconditionally non-kosher (treif). In Halachot Ketanot (Vol. 2, #211), Rabbi Chagiz argued that the chicken can be kosher and may be eaten, provided it meets a specific strict criteria.
