6158 – Strip the Holy Strap? -
(See Question 6152 above) - Q. Dear Rabbi, I recently sent a question regarding new retzuos for my tefillin when on the original ones, the leather is quite stiff and the edges are sharp against my arm. The Rov answered me that Horav Shlomo Miller’s Shlit’a opinion is that the above situation is most unusual and an expert sofer should be consulted.
I did so and my friend who is also an expert Sofer and seller of Tefillin, worked on the retzuos making them thinner keeping the original black top as it was. He said he consulted a very respected and reputable Rabbi and expert on these Halachot and he agreed.
