6140 – See the Invisible? -

Question

Q. Dear Rabbi, long life. I wanted to know if one could use invisible ink on Shabbat or Yom Tov? I know that writing is a prohibited melacha, but what about invisible ink? It doesn't make any marks on the paper and therefore, would it be considered writing? Is there a responsa on this? Could one write with it on Shabbos to read (with ultraviolet light) after Shabbat?

Answer

A. Horav Shlomo Miller Shlit’a maintains that it should not be used since after all it creates a hidden writing that can be seen following a known procedure
