Which is the best way to go (when staying Shabbos in a hotel) with the keyless electronic lock on the door?
Answer
On Shabbos or Yom Tov you cannot use the electronic card key. Horav Shlomo Miller’s opinion is that you should either place duct tape or a magnetic strip on the metal lock to avoid the door locking. Some hotels will provide the above but will also request that the guest should waive the hotel’s responsibility for lost or stolen property from the room. Other hotels provide a bicycle lock chain or other similar temporary locks.
