6134 – The Range Ponder -
Q. Dear Rabbi and Neighbor. What can one do if an electrical stove was left on by mistake on its highest setting on Shabbat\. Can one in some unusual way turn it down?
A. If the electrical stove does not create any danger one should not interfere for just saving electricity expenses.
However, if it does, one should turn down the setting using an unusual way to do it, such as turning down the control using a spoon or any other uncommon utensil. If one has access to a Gentile helper, it’s better that he be asked to do it also in an unusual way.
One should if available, ask a youngster to carefully do it in an unusual way.
