6129 – The Special Shabbos Mobile Choices
Q. In the above case, is it better if a person drives himself in a wheel chair or if he instead uses a walker, which he must in some parts of the walk actually carry, like the beginning or end of the sidewalk. The chair is usually sledded into the sidewalk without lifting it completely. The chair is also usually accompanied by a helper so there would be two people doing the job which makes it more lenient. Which is better?
A. Horav Shlomo Miller Shlit’a opinion is, as above mentioned, to preferable use a wheel chair, however he advised that due to other factors which could be present, one should ask a competent Halacha authority on each particular case.
