6104 – Real Kiddush for The Most Kaddosh Day?
Shana Tova Dear Rabbi. As the Rabbi knows do to my medical condition, as the Rabbi himself ruled, I should not fast even on Yom Kippur. I’m wondering if I have to eat, do I have to recite a Kiddush as done on other festivities?
A. Poskim indeed rule that although Yom Kippur is indeed included in our list of Yomim Tovim, yet one that eats does not have to recite Kiddhush before.
On the holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur, adults and children over the age of bar and bat mitzvah are biblically commanded to abstain from eating and drinking. Therefore, even when Yom Kippur falls on the Sabbath, and no kiddush over wine is recited, although we do not recite kiddush, we still have to fulfill our obligation by remembering the Sabbath during the davening and prayers recited, therefore when mentioning Shabbat on our Yom Kippur prayers, we have to have in mind to comply with the Biblical mitzva of sanctifying Shabbat, which requires intention in order to comply!
