6078 – Vayelech, the Lucky Parsha?
Q. Since it is possible, like on this year, that Parshas Vayelech is actually read twice in one single year, (last year it was after Rosh HaShanah on Shabbos Shuvah, and this year, together with Nitzavim, on the last Shabbos of the year,) what is so special about this double Parsha? I think Vayelech is the only parsha with this property.
A. Could be that in Netzavim, Moshe encourages the Jews to "be strong and courageous" in their keeping of the mitzvos, including their war against the Canaanites. (Deut. 30:) In Vayelech, Moshe also encourages Yehoshua to "be strong and courageous" in leading the Jews into the land. (Deut. 31:23) These two parshios have the common denominator of our nation being always strong and courageous, yet also considering different scenarios, times and settings, therefore they remain united in different ways.
