#5505 The Fruits of Doubts!

Question

Hi Rabbi Bartfeld, I have what I think are raspberry canes with thorns and branches (black and red) growing among trees in the side back of my backyard. I didn’t plant them (they are growing wild) but they seem to me to be raspberries and I think they have been around for a few years.

From what I have googled it seems that the issue may only be around Orla and Netta Revei and it seems to me from what I have read that it may not be an issue (apparently branches don’t last that long so Orla wouldn’t apply to the canes). I can’t find some of the things I googled so I am still unsure. Thank you.

Answer

Our Rabbonim maintained that it is most likely to be a safek or doubt on a Rabbinical prohibition. Best is if one can give them as a gift to an appreciative Gentile, and not consume them yourself.
