#5193 Name the Name Ishmael?
Question
See question above. If indeed the Arabs recanted and now they don’t believe the story of our Torah, can we name today a child Ishmael. Is that not the common name of a Tana in the Talmud and who we quote daily in davening?
Answer
Although in principle if one can name a child Ishmael, it may not be a good and proper idea as it may cause in some circles and schools embarrassment for the child.
