Question
Is it permitted to go on Shabbos to sit in a treife restaurant in honor of grandmother’s birthday if no treife will be consumed and no melacha done by the chareidi grandson?
Answer
As important and as a great mitzva the honoring of grandparents is, the above scenario is not permitted since it is at least a prohibited scene act (Ma’aras Ayin) and creates the appearance of transgression of severe prohibitions.
