# 4514 The Law of the Letter
I was matched up with a guy from across the sea. He wants to come to Toronto to meet me and see if we are compatible. He wants to know what documents to bring, in case we want to get married. He is divorced so he knows he will need a copy of his get. He was born Jewish so there are no conversion papers. What else would he need in terms of a civil marriage?
The customary procedure is to obtain from the Beth Din or a recognized and accepted Rabbi of his city, that knows him and his family well, a dated letter or document usually named ‘Hetter Nissuim,’ (permission to get married). That document officially mentions the above and all necessary information and conditions.
