Is there a prohibition on listening, reading or repeating news that may be fake?
Answer
Horav Shlomo Miller’s Shlit’a opinion is that besides the inherent prohibition of wasting time that could better be used in Torah learning and performing mitzvos, one may incur in the proscription of distancing oneself from sheker or falsehood. When repeating them one may also transgress on the prohibitions of lashon horah and rechilus. And when reading or listening to them one may be violating the laws of accepting lashon harah as well as encouraging others to do wrong.
