Vaccination Clinic for Measles, 26 May 2019 9-4
Community Events
The Jewish Community Is Uniting to Prevent Measles:
Measles is a highly contagious, dangerous, and potentially deadly disease. The reality of frequent Jewish community gatherings, combined with the fact that many tend to travel extensively across Jewish communities worldwide, make the entire Orthodox community in Toronto at increased risk.

In the wake of recent measles outbreaks in areas with large Orthodox communities around the world, Hatzoloh Toronto is organizing an MMR vaccination clinic for all members of our community on Sunday, May 26th from 10am-2pm at Bais Yaakov Elementary School. Thanks to ongoing support and collaboration with Toronto Public Health, we have arranged for large quantities of vaccine, and can assure members of the community that the highest standard of immunization practices are being followed.

Partnering with Hatzoloh are other community organizations including ECHO, Bikur Cholim, and Chai Lifeline. The Vaad Harabonim fully supports this important initiative, and has expressed a very clear imperative that all members of the community must make sure they are fully vaccinated as per Public Health guidelines during this time of potential threat to our community, especially our most vulnerable populations.

Replicating the efforts taken in the Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago and New York areas, we are encouraging everyone, of every age, to ensure they have received the recommended 2 MMR vaccine doses. The effectiveness of this campaign for community health is contingent on MASS vaccination. Turnout is CRITICAL.

Individuals who are unsure of their immune status should get the MMR vaccine as soon as possible, rather than being tested for measles immunity. There is very little risk in inadvertently getting a third dose.

This includes those born prior to 1970 who have not been vaccinated, as well as those born between 1970-1996 who likely have only received one vaccine..

The following people should NOT receive the MMR vaccine:

- Those who are pregnant or are likely to become pregnant in the next month. (Women who are breastfeeding CAN receive the vaccine.)

- Those who are immunocompromised or receiving medication such as chemotherapy.

For any specific questions, please consult your physician or attend the clinic on Sunday, May 26, where doctors will be on site to answer your questions.

In order to plan this clinic appropriately we ask everyone to register HERE and choose a time to attend.
